We have hair bows galore!! Both of my daughters were born with a head full of hair at birth, so we are no strangers to the clutter of hair bows. They are EVERYWHERE! I have had this birdcage now for several years and used it mainly as decorations in my oldest daughter’s bedroom. You can find one similar here. I decided to turn this into a useful piece and throw her headbands, pony tail elastics and the clip-in hair bows all together inside of it. At least they were in one place though, right! Wrong!!! What a mess I had. Trying to dig through the mess everyday to find the perfect bow was a nightmare. I tried clipping the hair bows with clips on the side. That didn’t work. It only ruined the clips after some time. So I did a little brain storming. Scary….I know. 🙂
I decided to add some ribbon to the sides for the clip-in hair bows. That way I could store them without worrying about damaging the clips. I measured the space vertically between the bars on the side, adding about 1 1/2 inches for gluing. To attach, I opened the top of the cage and folded the ribbon over the rim on the back and secured it with hot glue. Repeated this around the cage, skipping two spaces each time. Wanted enough room for the bigger bows.
Once that was done, I placed the clip-in bows on the outside and put the elastic headbands in the inside. The lid on the cage is perfect for hanging regular headbands on and makes a great display for them as well.
We attached this to the wall in her room using an outdoor flower basket hanger. I think I will paint it white in the future to make it blend better in her room. My daughter thinks the black looks great so maybe I can give it a quick spray paint before school is out for the summer. 😉
This is just a few of our collections. I wanted you to still be able to see the cage. 😉
